Scope of Responsibilities: The Elementary School permanent substitute teacher serves as the first call for substitute needs within the Elementary School.  Qualified applicants should have experience supervising students, teaching lessons, and working in a school environment.  The permanent substitute teacher must be willing to assist other teachers and office personnel as needed.  We expect teachers who are willing to be creative, have a strong work ethic, can think "outside the box," and are able to work effectively as part of a team.  The ideal applicant will have teacher certification and will be proficient in various computer applications.  All applicants must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and be in agreement with the philosophies, Statement of Faith, and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School. Further, applicants must have a commitment to the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of Christian schooling as expressed by Southside Christian School demonstrated by enrolling their eligible children in Southside Christian School. General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the first call substitute teacher within the ES department.
  • Supervise students at all times to ensure safety - never leave students unattended
  • Follow lesson plans carefully
  • Adhere to set schedule for lunch, recess, specials classes
  • Assist teachers in any other appropriate ways (filing papers, grading papers, etc. as time permits - remember your first duty is supervision of students and carrying out lesson plans)
  • Monitor recess, lunch, and car line unless otherwise noted
  • Attend recommended training programs and conferences
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Elementary School principal.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
